11/2019: This video notes the workings of an ongoing collaborative project first presented at The University of the Bahamas' Critical Caribbean Symposium Series, with dramaturge d'bi young anitafrika and three playwrights: Webster Mcdonald, daniel jelani Ellis and Samson Bonkeabantu Brown. At this event, we each presented extracts from our book, recently published independently with Spolrusie titled Dubbin Monodrama Anthology I: Black Masculinities in African Diaspora Theatre . This book is an anthology of dub monodrama's where each work uses techniques deriving from dub poetry, using the Anitafrika method created by co-editor d'bi young anitafrika. I collaborated with d'bi to write the intro and co-edited this edition along with Lyn and Alexandra Sproule in less than four weeks, as the plan was to have the launch at this conference in the Bahamas! Each play experiments with forms of dub poetry in order to navigate through ideas of masculinity, coloniality and queerness.
